![]() I think we're going to see a very explosive performance that ends in a big knockout." So he's literally right back in the title hunt with two steps to go - two really very short steps. "He knows that this is a title eliminator which will bring him to fighting the winner of the Jermain Taylor-Sam Soliman fight. "I really expect Curtis to be super explosive," said Stevens' trainer Andre Rozier. He's got the Ali-Leonard style, and that's what he should stick with against Stevens."īrooklyn, N.Y.'s Stevens, who challenged current Middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin for his belt in 2013, has won his last two fights and is coming off a 10th-round TKO win over 2008 Olympian Tureano Johnson. He's got lovely lateral movement and he's a fantastic boxer. "I think the key to this fight is just Hassan being himself. But, I think he's limited when it comes to fighting a boxer like Hassan," said N'Dam's manager Gary Hyde. "I think Curtis Stevens is a great fighter - he's unbelievably strong and can knock you out with either hand. I don't really know who I'd say is the best now.Commentators and Undercard Announced for ESPN Boxing Special on October 1 Paulie was the best modern technical analyst before he got himself canned. Manny Steward actually analyzed what the fighters were doing from a strategic standpoint and explained it to the audience in a way that was easy to understand, very few analysts can do that. Steve Farhood and Al Bernstein are both excellent, and really the last great color commentators left IMO. Color commentators now just tell hype stories and completely ignore when a fight is bad. Larry Merchant always spoke his mind - if a fight was bad, or a mismatch, he wasn't afraid to call his bosses out on it. You have to go back to Howard Cossell and Don Dunphy to have guys that you can compare with Lampley. Barry Tompkins is my current favorite but he only does Shobox now. There's nobody like him left, and all of the major network's main broadcasters are nowhere near his level. Lampley is simply the best blow-by-blow, he called fights eloquently and he called them how he he saw them, not how they were expected to go. They were articulate, offered smart analysis, and actually called the fights rather than hyped up fighters or just told stories. Each one of them was the best ever at their respective role. Lampley, Merchant, and Steward are the best commentary team of all time.
